About this image
Of all the commandments carved into those two stone tablets, one blazes with a fire the others do not — "Remember the Sabbath Day, to keep it holy." This dramatic oil painting sets the Ten Commandments against a stormy sky split by a single beam of divine light, the Sabbath commandment burning in golden fire at the heart of the law. For SDA believers who understand the Sabbath as the seal of God's authority and the sign of His remnant people in the last days, this image carries deep prophetic weight. Download it for your study wall, your Sabbath School classroom, or your church bulletin — a bold, beautiful reminder of the law that has never been changed.
Bible background: The Sabbath
At the end of creation week God rested on the seventh day, blessed it and made it holy. At Sinai He placed the Sabbath at the heart of the Ten Commandments: “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy,” pointing back to Him as the Creator of heaven and earth.
Jesus kept the Sabbath “as his custom was,” healed on it and taught that “the sabbath was made for man.” Scripture calls it a sign between God and His people, a day of delight, and a rest the redeemed will still keep in the new earth.
